The result is the cleanest, most refined visual outcome available in a commercial partition system.
Frameless systems require thicker glass than framed systems, typically 12mm to 15mm toughened or laminated glass, because the glass itself must provide the structural stiffness that the frame delivers in a framed system. Single-glazed systems are the most widely installed across commercial office environments and serve the majority of applications well. They are lighter than double-glazed units, which simplifies handling and reduces the structural load on fixing points, and they are available in a wider range of glass finishes including tinted, frosted, and patterned options.
Double-Glazed Systems
Double-glazed partition systems use sealed units consisting of two glass panes with an air gap between them. The acoustic benefit of the air gap, combined with acoustic laminated inner panes in higher-specification products, allows double-glazed systems to achieve Rw 42 to 48 dB in well-installed configurations. This represents a meaningful improvement over the best single-glazed acoustic systems and is the appropriate specification for boardrooms, HR offices, and any space where the highest level of speech privacy is required.
Double-glazed units are thicker and heavier than single-glazed panels, which requires a deeper framing system to accommodate them and more robust fixing at the structural connections. The panels take longer to manufacture and carry a higher supply cost. The overall cost premium for double-glazed systems over equivalent single-glazed acoustic systems is typically in the range of 20 to 40 per cent for the glass component.
Demountable Systems
Demountable glass partition systems are engineered for disassembly and relocation. The framing uses mechanical connections rather than permanent fixings, and the glass panels sit in gaskets that can be opened and closed. When a demountable partition needs to be moved, a specialist removes the components in sequence, relocates them, and reassembles the system in the new position.
Demountable systems are available in both framed and minimal-frame configurations and can accommodate the full range of glass specifications including acoustic laminated and double-glazed units. They are appropriate for businesses with shorter leases, anticipated layout changes, or a growth trajectory that makes fixed installations a less flexible commitment. The additional cost over equivalent fixed systems is typically 15 to 30 per cent, which is offset by the savings on future reconfiguration.
Sliding and Movable Wall Systems
Sliding glass wall systems are partition configurations designed to open and close rather than remain fixed. Panels hang from a top track and slide to a stacking position when the space is to be opened up. Bi-fold configurations fold the panels against each other as they open. Pocket systems conceal the panels in a wall cavity when open.
Sliding systems are available with acoustic glass specifications and drop seals at the base of each panel to improve acoustic performance when closed.
